Do Not Love the World
DO NOTS
“Do Not Love the World”
1 John 2:15-17
What do we mean by the word world?
“The world is a system of practices and standards associated with a secular world that opposes God, His Word, and His standards for living.”
“It’s a way of “thinking, acting, and living that leaves out and opposes God as its center.”
How do we as Christians navigate this world as God would want us to?
I. BALANCE – 1 Corinthians 7:31
– 1 Timothy 6:17
How do we find balance?
1.) You have to understand you!
2.) You have to quit listening to people!
“There are a hundred and one things that you dare not do — things that would be sin for you and would be recognized as sin by those who really know you. But the unspiritual people around you say, “What’s so wrong with doing that? How silly you are!” – Oswald Chambers
II. KNOWLEDGE – 2 Peter 2:20
“Knowledge is the most powerful weapon you are ever going to have at your disposal. It is not a gun, a sword, or a bomb because the strongest instrument you will have if you really want to make a change is what you learn.”
If we take that thought for this world, what should we learn?
- What the world system does- 2 Peter 2:7-8
- Where the world system leads – James 4:4
- Who’s behind this world system? – 2 Corinthians 4:4
III. CONCLUSION
- We’re never going to fit into this world. – 1 John 3:1
- We can overcome it. – 1 John 5:4
- We can be lights in the darkness. – Philippians 2:15
