What We Believe
The Holy Bible was written by men who were divinely inspired by God as a means to reveal Himself to man. It is without error, and was given as a tool to build up, edify, and instruct. God is its author, salvation is its story, and perfect truth is its essence. It is a living book that carries the power to change lives, and strengthen believers for the fulfillment of their purpose and destiny in Christ.
2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105, 160; Romans 15:4; Titus 1:1-3; 2 Timothy 1:13, Psalm 12:6
There is only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, who created the universe, redeemed mankind, and sustains and preserves all things. God is infinite, all-powerful, and all-knowing. He reveals Himself to us as the triune God; as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Genesis 1:1,26,27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; I Peter 1:2; Romans 11:33-36; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 John 3:20; Acts 17:24-25
Christ is the eternal Son of God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He took upon Himself the nature of mankind while living a perfect, sinless life. He willingly gave up His life through a sacrificial death on the cross to redeem man from his sin. Jesus was physically raised from the dead to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven and now sits exalted at the right hand of God, the Father. He will one day return to the earth in power and glory.
Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:1-5; Hebrews 4:14-15; John 1:1, 14; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Colossians 1:15-22; Titus 2:13-14; Acts :19-11; Hebrews 1:1-3; 1 Peter 2:21-24
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine. He inspired men to write the Scriptures and enables us to understand the truth. He exalts Christ and convicts men of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He calls men to the Saviour and baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ. Cultivating Christian character, He comforts believers and equips them with the tools and gifts necessary to serve God through His church. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service.
John 16:7-13; 14:16-17, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 2:10-14; 3:16, 12:3-11,13, Ephesians 1:13-14, Galatians 5:25
Man is the prized creation of God, made in His own image. In the beginning, man was innocent of sin and was given the freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Through the temptation of Satan man willfully disobeyed the command of God, and fell from his original innocence. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God.
Genesis 1:26-28; Psalm 8:3-6; 14:1-3; 51:5; Isaiah 59:1-2; Romans 3:23; 5:12, 19; 6:23; Colossians 1:21; Ephesians 2:1-3
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man and is a free gift that is offered to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.
Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 14:6; 1:12, Titus 3:5, John 3:16; Galatians 5:16; 2 Corinthians 5:17; 1 Thessalonians 3:13; 5:23-24
The church is an autonomous local congregation that is made up of baptized believers. They are brought together according to their covenant in the faith, and fellowship of the gospel. They are governed by the laws of Christ, and exercise the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seek to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth.
The Bible also refers to the church as the Body of Christ which includes the redeemed of all the ages, believers from every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation.
Matthew 16:16-19; 28:18-20; Acts 2:41-47; 20:28; Ephesians 1:22-23; 3:20-21; 4:11-13; Acts 2:41-42
Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior. It is also a portrayal of the believer’s death to sin, rejection of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.
The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience where members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, remember the death of Christ, while anticipating His return.
Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41-42; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. According to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth. The dead will be raised, and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. At the final judgment, unbelievers will be separated forever from God in a place of everlasting punishment because of their rejection of Jesus Christ. Believers, in their resurrected bodies, will live in God’s glorious presence as they worship and serve Him forever.
Matthew 25:31-46; John 14:3; 1 Corinthians 15:20-26; Philippians 3:20-21; Hebrews 9:27-28
