A DO OVER
A DO OVER
Genesis 4:1-8 (NKJV)
Let’s look at the “Do over” God gave in the life of Cain:
1. A do over from God comes with “knowledge”.
“but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.” (Gen. 4:5)
- What we did
- Why it was wrong
- What can we do . . . not to do it again
2. A do over from God comes with “love”.
“So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted?” (Gen. 4:6-7a)
God tried:
to “reason” with him
“So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry?” (Gen. 4:6a)
to “console” him
“And why has your countenance fallen” (Gen. 4:6b)
to “encourage” him
“If you do well, will you not be accepted?” (Gen. 4:7a)
3. A do over from God comes with “caution”.
“And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is [a]for you, but you should rule over it.” (Gen. 4:7b)
“Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. (Gen. 4:8)
