Rev. 20:1-10

Three basic views concerning the Millennium Kingdom:

• Post-Millennialism
• Amillennialism
• Premillennialism

1. Departure of Satan (v. 1-3)

• Procedure (v. 1-2a)
  • Angel
  • Key
  • Great chain
  • took hold of Satan (Dragon, Serpent of old, Devil, Satan)
• Period (v. 2b)
  • 1000 years
• Place (v. 3a)
  • The bottomless pit (abyss)
  • Abyss – A temporary place of confinement where demons are waiting to be cast into the lake of fire
• Purpose (v. 3b)
  • He will not be able to influence the world in any way
  • There will be peace and harmony (Only believers will enter the Millennial Kingdom, with natural and physical bodies)
  • Explosion of the population (many will be born – with sinful nature, and right to choose) during the Millennial Kingdom
    • No disease to kill off people
    • Many born during the Millennial Kingdom will not receive Christ (Satan’s army will consist of these)

2. Dominance of the Saints (v. 4-6)

• Who will rule and reign?
  • The Church (1 Cor. 6:2, 2 Tim. 2:12, Rev. 2:26, Rev. 3:21)
    • Old Testament Saints (Dan. 7:27)
    • New Testament Saints
    • Tribulation Saints (Rev. 20:4b)
• Who will we rule and reign over?
  • All those born during the Millennial Kingdom
• Will all saints reign equally?
  • Levels of rewards
    • 1 Cor. 3:8, 1 Cor. 3:14, 2 Cor. 5:10
  • Levels of punishment
    • Rev. 20:12
• THE FIRST RESURRECTION (“Resurrection of Life”, “Resurrection of the Righteous”) – the resurrection of the saints
  • OT SAINTS – bodies in the ground, but spirits and souls went to “Sheol” (place of the dead)(NT counterpart to Sheol is “Hades”)
    • Sheol or Hades has two compartments
      • Abraham’s bosom – for the saints
      • Sheol or Hades – for the lost
    • After Jesus was resurrected, He emptied “Abraham’s bosom”, united the OT Saints with their bodies and took them to heaven
  • NT SAINTS – bodies in the ground, but spirits and souls go to be with the Lord
  • RAPTURED SAINTS (1 Thess. 4:16-17)
    • graves of saints who are already in heaven will now be united with their bodies
    • those that are alive and remain, “will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air” (both body and spirit, at the same time)
• THE SECOND RESURRECTION (v. 5) – the lost from all generations who will stand at “The Great Throne of Judgment”
  • Where are those right now who have rejected Jesus Christ?
    • Sheol / Hades
  • During the 2nd Resurrection, the Lord will empty the other side of Sheol and unite all lost mankind with their spirits and bodies
  • They will stand and be judged at the Great White Throne of Judgment

3. Doom of Satan (v. 7-10)

Satan’s days are now numbered.

It beings with:

• His “Release” (v. 7-10)
  • After 1000 year Millennial Kingdom
  • Released from abyss
  • Conspiring against the Lord and His people
• His “Retaliation” (v. 8)
  • “Deceive the people of the nation“
  • He will find many unsaved descendants
    • “four corners of the earth”
    • Gog and Magog (symbolic name given to those who side with Satan in his last attack)
      • Differences in the two battles
        • Ezekiel 38 and 39 (last half of Ch. 19)
          • Armies come mainly from the North
          • Involve only a few nations
          • invaders perish on the mountains
          • the dead will be buried
          • Satan is missiing
        • Rev. 20
          • Armies come from all nations
          • Come from all directions
          • perish on the breath of the earth
          • the dead will be devoured
          • Satan is leading this final charge
    • The number coming to this final battle is astounding
      • “the number of them is like the sand of the seashore“
• His “Result” (v. 9-10)
  • An execution (“fire down from heaven“)
    • A picture of God’s judgment
  • Satan will meet his final end
    • “Thrown into the lake of fire“
    • “Tormented day and night forever and ever“
  • NO MORE SATAN!!!! AMEN!!!
